Level 3 Tweaks Its Enterprise SIP

October 7th, 2013 by · 3 Comments

Level 3 Communications (NYSE:LVLT, news, filings) added another dimension to its enterprise offerings this morning with a new SIP voice package. Featuring geographically independent numbers and a native PRI handoff, it’s a blend of leveraging the new and better integration with the old.

SIP and other modern voice technologies have been steadily making inroads in the enterprise market, but there is work yet to be done to really push out the old and bring in the new. And as chases the sustained higher growth everyone is waiting for, it’s in the enterprise they’ve been finding the most traction lately. Making their SIP offerings both more useful and easier to upgrade to certainly can’t hurt that trend.

Is VoIP sexy again?  With the positive response to RingCentral’s IPO recently, perhaps it actually is — at least in the enterprise world.

Level 3’s stock price has been stronger lately, suggesting that the market is cautiously optimistic about the company’s traction. I think the implications of August’s Google/Starbucks/WiFi contract have also been sinking in. There are rumors out there that I can’t quite pin down with certainty that there is more in that pipeline than just coffee.  And no, I’m not going to be more specific at this time.

Perhaps someone not as discrete as Rob could tell the rest of us what some of those rumors are. :>)

Maybe this is a hint from august….’In fact, I think that this deal will sooner or later (and probably sooner) resurrect the rumor that Google could buy Level 3. And actually, such a thing is starting to actually make sense even to me — and I’ve made a hobby out of shooting down such rumors.’
