Int’l Roundup: Pacnet, Level 3, euNetworks, VTLWaveNet, AT&T

November 21st, 2012 by · 6 Comments

Time for a quick look at some news from the international front from Pacnet, Level 3, euNetworks, VTLWaveNet, and AT&T.

The pan-APAC carrier Pacnet continued its recent string of news with both an expansion and a contract. They have now connected to AMS-IX way over in Europe, supplementing their peering connectivity to over 500 networks internationally but especially within the European IP community. It's their second such peering connection, as they are also in LINX over in London. Pacnet also won a transpacific capacity deal with the Japanese ISP NEC BIGLOBE, under which it is connecting BIGLOBE's data center in Japan with the Any2 Internet exchange in Los Angeles. The bandwidth is coming from EAC Pacific, their piece of the Unity cable.

Level 3 Communications (NYSE:LVLT, news, filings) picked up a contract with the multinational services company Serco Group. The five year deal will simplify Serco's current data, voice, and video needs by using Level 3 as its sole supplier. The UK-based Serco works in a whole lot of verticals, most often via government contracts and related opportunities - so far as I can tell.

The London Stock Exchange named two more 'accredited connectivity partners' this week. euNetworks and VTLWaveNet have joined the list of pre-approved network operators available to the exchange's financial customers. For its part, euNetworks followed up yesterday with a partnership with Capacity Media, which will be taking over the management of the LambdaNet Forum 2013 this coming February.

And last but definitely not smallest, AT&T (NYSE:T, news, filings) has won a contract renewal with Rank Group. The New Zealand-based packaging and auot-parts business has been working with AT&T for four years, unifying its telecommunications services across its US locations, including the acquired Graham Packaging business.
