The Russian operators have been rather actively investing in their infrastructure lately, haven’t they? Today it was TTK, a.k.a. TransTeleCom, upgrading its IP network with gear from Juniper Networks (NASDAQ:JNPR, news, filings). Russian infrastructure wins aren’t minor, as you can see from the company’s fiber map:
75,000km of fiber across 1,000 access nodes, much of it following the rail lines of course. That trans-asian fiber is becoming more important these days to the global internet. TTK will be deploying MX Series 3D edge routers to support the operators Ethernet, IP-VPN, Layer 2 VPN, and other services.
As for other Russian infrastructure work going on, Rostelecom had two 100G-related announcements this month with Alcatel-Lucent and Huawei, as well as a fiber buildout in Siberia.
