Colo Roundup 10/27: Digital Realty, SoftLayer, First, Internap, Telx

Let's take a quick survey of recent news in the colo space:

Digital Realty Trust (NYSE:DLR, news, filings) won a big client for that Singapore facility they opened this year in Jurong East. IBM, with whom they have a longstanding relationship has signed a lease for a turn-key datacenter there. And back in California, Net2EZ has agreed to lease another 24,000 square feet and 2,356kW in their El Segundo facility. That more than doubles their current footprint.

SoftLayer is making a move on Europe, according to Data Center Knowledge.  The cloud and managed services provider has opened their HQ as well as a data center in Amsterdam.  Over the next two years, they are planning to spend $75M on the expansion, which will see PoPs in London, Amsterdam, and Frankfurt.

Fiber operator First Communications has brought its fiber into the new 100,000 square foot data center under construction at the Penn Regional Business Center in Marshalls Creek PA. If you don't know where Marshalls Creek is, neither did I and I grew up 15 miles away. It's out by the Delaware Water Gap, which definitely isn't one of the more connected areas within 100 miles of NYC.

Internap Network Services (NASDAQ:INAP, news, filings) today unveiled an OpenStack public cloud platform, which it billed as the first such offering to be commercially available.  Internap also reminded us all that they do still operate a content delivery network by expanding their service options for mobile content. The new in-stream transmuxing feature is powered by Concurrent's EFactor Transmux.

And finally, Telx Group (news, filings) has forged a channel partnership with Colocation America. The west coast operator will become one of Telx's master agents, reselling colo and interconnection across eight markets.
