Tata Moves ICR and IVR To the Cloud

September 15th, 2011 by · 1 Comment

Indian telecommunications giant Tata Communications (news, filings) has launched a new cloud-based service. They’ve moved both Intelligent Call Routing and Interactive Voice Response onto a cloud infrastructure. The call center industry can use them for routing and distributing calls to their locations around the world.  The solution features an on-demand, pay-per-use routing and distribution platform that is based on the same IP core that powers their VoIP network.  Much of that international VoIP network derives from Teleglobe, and is one of the largest out there.

While the early list of commercial cloud applications has been generally rather familiar: computing on demand, storage, perhaps security. Many other applications will be moving to a cloud-based infrastructure, and VoIP related applications will surely be amongst the next in line. So Tata’s move makes a lot of sense, especially in the context of the growth of its cloud-based managed services division and its substantial position in the Indian call center industry overall.
