Network Roundup 5-24: Sidera, Earthlink, Tinet, Level 3

Apparently, everyone was saving up some news for the start of ITW, because the cup runeth over and over.  Here's a few more noteworthy announcements:

Northeastern fiber operator sidera has enhanced its switched Ethernet services, adding CoS capabilities with guaranteed service levels.  The company just began offering those switched Ethernet services over its Xtreme Network last month, thus expanding their addressable market.   While Sidera has recently been said to be on the market, I still think ABRY might find something more creative to do with this asset.

If you were wondering what might have happened to Deltacom's wholesale IFN division, well Earthlink just unveiled its new Earthlink Carrier division which takes that piece and adds in various wholesale bits from New Edge Networks and One Communications.  Most of the actual fiber of course comes from the Deltacom footprint, though I still expect Earthlink to be a buyer for other assets that might be available - Broadview continues to seem possible.

tinet won itself a contract with NWT Enterprises.  The carrier will provide IP transit to NWT via 10Gbps ports in Washington DC, NYC, Atlanta, and Miami as well as additional markets over the next two years.  NWT will also be connecting to Tinet's EtherCloud.  Cumberland-based NWT recently acquired "fiber with breakout availability throughout the state of Maryland, including Washington, DC", which I suspect may be related to the Allied Fiber buildout - anybody know?

And finally, Level 3 Communications (NYSE:LVLT, news, filings) launched a wholesale partner program designed to enable domestic and international carriers to resell the company's services to their enterprise customers.  Actually, I was a bit surprised they didn't have something like this in place already, but that shows what I know.  The program allows partners to leverage the company's extensive metro network coverage as well as its enterprise offerings.
