Wednesday Roundup 10/6: XO, 360Networks, and Cox Business

October 6th, 2010 by · 1 Comment

Several items of late that managed to evade my clutches for a while:

XO Holdings (news, filings) reached an impressive milestone yesterday, surpassing one million VoIP customer employee end users.  Amidst all the Icahn-related stories, it is rather easy to forget the things that XO does do well, and VoIP for the SME is certainly one of those.  Now for the second million, eh?  🙂

Out in Oregon, 360Networks expanded its voice footprint into Coos Bay along the state’s southwest coast.  Adding the additional eleven exchanges came at the behest of one of the company’s customers, Clearfly Communications, which leverages its wholesale VoIP and single point of interconnection products.  360Networks also passed along an updated link to its network map, which I have added to my USA longhaul maps page.

And over at CENX, Cox Business has signed onto the Ethernet exchange. The enterprise-focused arm of Cox Communications serves a quarter million small and regional businesses.  I believe much of that is via coax and cable modems, but they do also have a substantial fiber footprint with many buildings on-net as well.  At CENX they will likely seek simply to expand the customer base to whom they can sell that access.
