Clearwire Opens for Business in Boston, Providence, Daytona Beach

WiMAX operator clwr officially added three more cities to its network coverage overnight.  Two were the major markets in New England, adding coverage for 2.5M in Boston and 590K in Providence.  And down in Florida they added coverage for 190K in Daytona Beach, which will keep Jacksonville company.  Now, as I am a sucker for maps and feel silly describing the extent of each new coverage area in words, here is a quick set of snapshots of the three markets from clear.com’s awesome coverage maps:

In all, that is 52 markets for Clearwire.  Remaining cities to be unveiled for the last three weeks of summer are Tampa Bay, Orlando, and Nashville.  By the end of the year, the major markets of New York City, Los Angeles, the SF Bay Area, Denver, Minneapolis, Miami, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Pittsburgh remain on the schedule.

    Rob,

interesting piece in WSJ this a.m. suggesting Sprint may let T Mobile invest in Clearwire which would likely provide the capital needed for the full nationwide roll out of 4G service. Could also be a precurser to a full merger resulting in three nationwide competitors. Sprint now looks interesting at $4.00 per share with slowly improving results.
