Global Crossing Tosses Hat Into Telepresence Ring

July 29th, 2010 by · 1 Comment

glbc has taken the plunge and launched an immersive telepresence product.    in partnership with Teliris.  Global Crossing has long had an extensive portfolio of conferencing and collaboration products, which it uses in catering to its multinational customer base.  Hence this move seems to follow naturally, given the ongoing transition of telepresence to the mainstream.

It seems like just a year or two ago that telepresence was an impractical technological curiosity.  Oh wait, it *was* just a year or two ago.  But already, from what I hear, the demands of telepresence applications are starting to cause bandwidth operators to modify their networks – the bandwidth consumed being large enough to change the dynamics.  Is 2010 the Year of Telepresence?  Not yet perhaps, but 2011 is starting to look that way.
