Reclassifying, better known in little kids world as changing the rules in the middle of the game … would further damper private investment in telecom. If the rules can be changed at any time … what private investor is going to take the risk? How hard is this for the FCC to understand.

We don’t want or need socialized telecommunications!

If you own fiber – different story all together.

Lastly, if such a change were attempted … and here is a Psychic CEO prediction — the ILECs would drag the FCC to court and, yes, win again. Never bet against the ILEC in court … politicians can play all sorts of games before court for bravado or populist reasons … but once the ILEC has your butt in court it’s about facts and the law.

Are we’re talking about reclassifying information services as common carriage? Assuming it were a practical proposition (which it’s not as things stand today, purely from a physical perspective, given how IP ‘works’ and how incumbents are tied into the core), as a mind bonk one might otherwise ask, Why would the ILECs “not” want this?

I think the Moose is onto something here. Dave, would you like to “reclassify” your position or are you being cynical? If so, I can relate.

FWIW, I have considered peer traffic exchanges to have already socialized telecom as respects “fiber owners.”

As a matter of fact, it continues being proven in one long haul telecom provider’s stock price for a very long time now.
