Both CBeyond and 8×8, two rather different providers of VoIP services to small business customers, reported their quarterly earnings today, and in both cases results were steady though not spectacular. But then, expecting spectacular results in this environment would be a bit loony. What matters is the implication that while churn is surely rising somewhat, [...]

Vonage Tweaks Its Financing
October 8th, 2008 by Rob Powell · No Comments
In July, back when the credit markets were merely horrible, Vonage announced a financing package to allow it to refinance its debt that comes due in December, and even then it was a brutal refinancing. Well, today Vonage announced the package has been renegotiated. Why? Well, I’m guessing it is because the original package ‘contemplated’ [...]

Verizon Loses VoIP Patent Case
October 7th, 2008 by Rob Powell · No Comments
Finally, Verizon (VZ) lost a VoIP patent case yesterday. Cox, accused of infringing on 6 patents, took the ILEC all the way through a jury trial and won on all counts. Well, it is Cox and not Vonage (VG) this time or someone even smaller, so this isn’t quite a giant killing story, yet it [...]

Vonage Visits the Shark Tank
July 27th, 2008 by Rob Powell · 2 Comments
After various stops and starts, Vonage has finally found someone to loan them the money to refinance their debt - they must do this by December or go belly up. Ike Elliott, who follows Vonage more carefully than I do, has a nice writeup on the financing. To put it bluntly, it is [...]
