GTT Does Another Deal, in Europe This Time

January 8th, 2018 by · 2 Comments

GTT has been a busy consolidator lately, and they have kicked off 2018 with another purchase.  They have announced the acquisition of Custom Connect, expanding their IP and low latency capabilities in the EMEA region.

Custom connect is based in Amsterdam, and offers low latency services to the financial community.  This past August, for instance, they introduced a microwave link between Equinix’s LD4 facility in Slough and its FR2 facility in Frankfurt.  They have taken a carrier neutral approach, leveraging others’ network footprints in order to reach out to data centers and financial exchanges worldwide.

For GTT, this deal will add to their growing efforts in the financial vertical, which were also boosted by last year’s Hibernia Networks acquisition.  It’s probably not that big from a revenue perspective, but could have an impact in terms of strategic customers, especially in the Benelux region.  It’s also not likely to be too difficult an integration, as the two asset bases seem pretty closely aligned.

Does anyone here know if they are doing microwave across the Channel or are they doing glass there and microwave everywhere else?
