Wednesday Roundup: CenturyLink, RETN, HFN

Here are a few other news items from yesterday that are worth a look:

CenturyLink’s cyber security efforts have reached new heights. Via its ongoing integration with the networks and infrastructure of Level 3, CenturyLink says it now monitors 114B NetFlow sessions and 1.3B security events per day. They respond to some 120 DDoS attacks daily and remove about 35 command and control networks monthly.

RETN has launched a new DWDM metro ring in Moscow. The deployment leverages Infinera’s DTN gear, connecting up a series of major data centers in the Russian capital: DataLine, IXcellerate, Linxdatacenter, MMTS-9, and TehnoGorod. RETN has been adding depth to its network across Europe, and while it is based in the UK, Russia is of course one of its key markets.

And HFN is expanding the reach of its Smart Grid network deeper into New Jersey. They have announced plans to build out to Cologix’s NNJ3 facility in Parsippany, extending their connectivity further out toward the edge and ultimately out further to Cologix across North America. HFN has been moving aggressively with its Smart Grid deployment in NJ over the last year or two, most recently doing a deal with a major REIT to gain access to key enterprise buildings.
