Network Bytes: Zayo, Windstream, FirstLight

May 24th, 2017 by · 1 Comment

Here’s a quick look at some US network news from this week:

Zayo has won another metro dark fiber deal, this time in the, umm, religious vertical. Eagle Brook Church is using the fiber to hook up its six locations and corporate offices in and around the Minneapolis/St.Paul Metro area. With live services being delivered over streaming video from the church’s Lino Lakes location, they were having issues with jitter and latency.

Windstream was on the move again this week. The company’s wholesale division has introduced SDNow, or software defined network orchestrated waves. The new SDN-powered service is targeted at the data center cloud market and is initially available at five key locations in Chicago, Dallas, Ashburn, Miami, and Atlanta, with up to 50 more on the way this summer.

And FirstLight’s tent is officially bigger now. Sovernet, which the company recently acquired, has now officially rebranded to FirstLight, alongside Oxford and ION. Now all they have left is their most recent acquisition, Finger Lakes Technologies Group.
