Sparkle, Global Cloud Exchange Expand Via Each Other’s Reach

November 18th, 2016 by · Leave a Comment

Two global network operators revealed yesterday that they are partnering to expand their respective capacity and reach. Sparkle, the international arm of Telecom Italia, and Global Cloud Exchange, which serves the same role for India’s Reliance Communication, are tapping each others infrastructure.

Sparkle will be acquiring a significant chunk of GCX’s FA-1 cable system, boosting its transatlantic capacity. Meanwhile, Sparkle will be helping out GCX with a strategic capacity deal on SEA-ME-WE-5 between Europe and Asia. GCX has also expanded its network into Sparkle’s growing interconnection hub in Palermo, Sicily.

That Sicilian interconnection hub, which also houses a DE-CIX exchange of course, has been enjoying a pretty good run for a location that had been bypassed so consistently until a few years ago.
