Global Capacity Spreads Its MPLS VPN Wings

April 13th, 2015 by · Leave a Comment

Since closing its purchase of MegaPath’s wholesale division at the start of 2015, Global Capacity has been busy integrating its new network and central office reach with the rest of its offerings. This morning, they unveiled one of the most visible pieces of that project, taking their MPLS VPN and extending it across the combined One Marketplace footprint.

The newly integrated core network has 41 PoPs, 86 local aggregation nodes, 2,007 central offices, and 4,513 last mile interconnections. But more broadly, the company says it reaches deep into the business markets as a whole, potentially serving some 9.6M business locations.

Of course, most of that last number comes via Ethernet-over-copper through that central office coverage. But as Vertical Systems Group detailed earlier this month, business fiber penetration has continued to climb and now stands at more than 40%.

Global Capacity’s integration activities will likely keep them busy for while longer yet, but if successful I see no reason why they wouldn’t have an appetite for more assets of this type.
