GCX Expands in Dubai, Barney in India

March 31st, 2015 by · 2 Comments

Two interesting items from Global Cloud Xchange from the the continent of Asia this morning.

GCX has added a new PoP in Dubai with the carrier neutral data center datamena. From there they can hook up with regional carriers to better serve the various other markets around the Persian Gulf. The Indian carrer’s wholesale profile in the Middle East has been growing steadily for years.

And GCX’s CEO Bill Barney is getting some new responsibilities within the corporate family. GCX’s parent, the Indian giant Reliance Communications, is realigning its business units, shifting its Enterprise, IDC, and national long distance operations in India into his orbit as well.

It’s only been a year since Barney took the helm at GCX, then Reliance Globalcom. With the rebranding and shift toward cloud connectivity, he’s been quite busy — and it seems things have been going pretty well. At least, the talk of Reliance selling off or IPOing the unit seems to have lost its sense of urgency for the time being.
