CityFibre Takes On Edinburgh

March 3rd, 2015 by · Leave a Comment

Edinburgh is about to get some new metro fiber options.  CityFibre has picked the Scottish capital as its next ‘Gigabit Cities’ expansion market, one year after its initial expansion into Scotland up in Aberdeen.

CityFibre will start off with 150km of fiber in the city, which will be its largest such investment thus far. Some 50km of that fiber will be in central Edinburgh, putting some 7,000 businesses within reach. Construction will kick off this summer, although they didn’t supply a target completion date.

CityFibre will be partnering with Edinburgh-based service provider Commsworld, whose local knowledge will help get things rolling when it comes to customers.  CityFibre’s other three Gigabit Cities projects are of course in York, Peterborough, and Coventry, but they have metro fiber in some 50 towns and cities in all.
