Wednesday Roundup: Cyan, Lumos, CoreSite

January 7th, 2015 by · 1 Comment

As we all continue to recover from the holidays, here’s a quick roundup of news from this week that’s worth a look.

Cyan kicked off 2015 with some good news. They’ve raised their revenue guidance for the fourth quarter of 2014. On the strength of packet-optical demand (perhaps the Windstream contract is helping already?), they now expect $30-31M in revenue for the quarter, a boost of 20-25% over prior guidance. With their SDN and NFV offerings coming of age, they hope to keep up the momentum through 2015 after a tough 2014.

Lumos Networks has continued its fiber expansion in western Pennsylvania. They’ve now brought Expedient’s data center in Pittsburgh’s Allegheny Center Mall on-net, giving them 29 on-net data centers and 5 now in Pittsburgh. Lumos recently added a NOC with an R&D center in the city as it continues to put the fiber assets it gained from the Allegheny acquisition to better use.

CoreSite has launched its second data center in Reston, Virginia. The first phase of its VA2 facility is now open, but if you wanted some space you’re already too late — its 50,000 square feet are already fully leased. They are now working on Phase 2, which will double the available space by sometime in Q2 of this year. When fully built out, VA2 will offer 198,000 square feet of space. But by then they’ll likely be working on VA3.
