Wednesday Bytes: GTT, Epsilon, CenturyLink, Alcatel-Lucent

October 29th, 2014 by · Leave a Comment

It’s midweek already, and Halloween is just two days away.  Here’s a look at some of the networking news from this week:

GTT picked up an MPLS network contract with MASS Communications this week. MASS has a health care customer that expects to have more than 100 locations in the New York metro area that will need secure connectivity to the cloud over the next couple of years. GTT recently expanded its footprint with the purchase of UNSi.

Over in APAC, Racks Central has picked Epsilon’s network outsourcing to expand its connectivity. The Singaporean data center provider will use Epsilon’s eConnect to connect its customers with other data centers and enterprises worldwide. Racks Central has a new data center coming online next quarter in Singapore as well.

CenturyLink is rebuilding its core IP network with some help from Alcatel-Lucent. They’ve deployed the 7950 Extensible Router to add both speed and capacity, helping them to keep up with the inevitable march of bandwidth growth. That’s both from the needs of their cloud and data cente services and from that 1G expansion in 16 cities they announced recently.

And speaking of Alcatel-Lucent, they were also in the news out in southeast Asia. They’re working with the Internet Society to put together BKNIX, the Bangkok Internet Exchange. BKNIX will be operational in December of this year, leveraging the Franco-American vendor’s 7750 Service Router among other things. New internet exchanges have been sprouting up all over the planet lately.
