Alpheus Buys StratITsphere’s Biz Colo

August 7th, 2014 by · Leave a Comment

Alpheus made a small, strategic M&A move down in Houston yesterday.  They have announced the acquisition of StratIT’sphere’s business colocation unit down in Houston’s energy corridor.

dc_photoThe deal adds 12K square feet of SSAE-16 compliant data center space at 1510 Primewest Parkway in Katy into Alpheus’s asset base.  StratITsphere will continue to operate the overall 93K square foot facility, but will focus on the wholesale business.

Alpheus needed additional space in Houston to meet demand.  That’s not a new phenomenon, as they recently also expanded their colo footprint in Austin for the same reason, although not via inorganic means in that case.  The company’s expansion deeper into the enterprise space seems to have been going pretty well.

The Texas market has been pretty dynamic lately, with lots of buildouts of both fiber and colo in the works.  Still in the hands of private equity, Alpheus is probably one of the bigger potential regional infrastructure M&A targets left out there.  They haven’t seemed too interested in network M&A as a buyer thus far, but this sort of small, strategic acquisition is another matter of course.
