Metro Bytes: FiberLight, US Signal, Zayo, Birch

January 29th, 2014 by · 4 Comments

In metro news this week, two bits of expansion news, one upgrade, and two promotions:

Yesterday FiberLight offered an update on its Texas-sized Texas expansion buildout. As of the end of 2013 they had completed 4,500 miles of the planned 8,000 miles, which includes 400 route miles hooking up 300 locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area. Still a lot of miles to go on the project, with another 2,000 miles lined up for this year.

In the Midwest, US Signal announced an expansion of its network access footprint. They are lighting fiber into 52 central offices in Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana, allowing them more control over their customers’ connectivity. The expansion will be in place by the end of Q1 in Michigan, and Q2 in Indiana and Illinois.

Zayo has put more resources to work in Las Vegas.   They’ve upgraded their colo facility at 7185 Pollock Drive with a new generator system as well as improved electrical, mechanical, and security capabilities.  This is the former MarquisNet facility Zayo purchased just over two years ago now.

Atlanta-based Birch Communications added muscle to its sales team, promoting from within. Brad Smith will take on the job of VP of Dealer Sales, while Mike Otting will be VP of Telesales. Both have been with the company for over a decade. In the meantime, Birch seems due to add another notch to its consolidation belt this spring.

Suprised FiberLight is still afloat or not under Dan Caruso’s bubble, word on the wire is that the chairman brought in his old buddy to run the company and then the new guy brought on his clueless brother in law. Boneheads are teeing this thing up for sale, get ready to jump ship folks later this year, cause you know you won’t see a dime!
