CityFibre Teams Up With Level 3 for UK IP

June 12th, 2013 by · 1 Comment

CityFibre has tapped Level 3 to bring bandwidth to its UK metro networks and help enable the symmetric gigabit internet access offer they are putting together.  It’s a natural partnership, as Level 3 has regional fiber across the UK that derives from the Global Crossing deal that gets them into CityFibre’s second tier markets without worrying about much direct competition.

York footprint

CityFibre has been building out metro fiber and FTTH networks in some 50 towns across the UK.  One of their deepest networks is up in the northern English city of York where they are putting yet more dollars, err pounds, to work.  That will be the first place CityFibre puts Level 3’s bandwidth to work, with additional markets to come later.

Level 3 could use some fuel for growth in its UK business, where it has been fighting the headwinds of lost government contract revenue as well as the general economic conditions for some time.

Europe overall is getting Level 3’s attention lately.  I continue to hear whispers that the company sniffing around Euro M&A targets, and perhaps has taken on some dark fiber in the Baltics as well.

Will this help them get to FCF positive by the year 2015? Or perhaps boost the stock price to $23 by the end of 2014?
