Time for a quick roundup of news today from EarthLink, CenturyLink, Orange Business, and Dialogic:

Earthlink (NASDAQ:ELNK, news, filings) took another step toward its cloud-powered future with the opening of its new Dallas data center and sales office. Further rollouts in Chicago, San Jose, and Miami will follow, giving them eight in all. The initial Dallas customer list includes Mexico’s Payrolling, which will be using a suite of Earthlink’s managed services.  This year we should get a clearer idea of Earthlink’s traction in the cloud and managed IT services sector.

CenturyLink (NYSE:CTL, news, filings) picked up a federal deal today, winning the DOD’s Defense Research and Engineering Network (DREN) III contract. Its a 10 year indefinite-delivery-indefinite-quantity contract worth as much as $750M under which CenturyLink will provide connectivity to the DoD’s supercomputers and researchers with pipes ranging from 50Mbps to 100Gbps. CenturyLink also has a DISA-DITCO deal via Networx hooking up military installations that’s worth more than $250M, so they’ve got definitely got significant Defense revenues on tap for the years ahead.

Dialogic says that its session border controller has completed interoperability testing with BroadSoft’s application server. The combination will help service providers offer advanced UC services. BroadSoft has been mentioned recently as a potential target for the likes of Oracle, which recently bought Acme Packet and its SBC technology.

And speaking of unified communications, Orange Business Services took its UCaaS capabilities global, following its initial launch in France and Europe. And on the initial client list is none other than 3M, which aims to improve collaboration and productivity among 20K employees at 75 EMEA sites. They plan to have 16K seats rolled out by the end of next year, and will be expanding the initiative to Latin America and APAC as well.
