Service Provider M&A: Impact Acquires Matrix

February 20th, 2013 by · 1 Comment

Some interesting inorganic news today from the alternative service provider side of things. Impact Telecom has announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Matrix, or more specifically specifically all outstanding shares of both Matrix Telecom and AmericaTel Corporation.

Over the years, Matrix acquired and integrated a variety of smaller CLEC businesses, including Excel a couple years ago and the SMB business of Global Crossing. ant Trinsic (previously Z-Tel) before that. Across their various brands they sell largely to the SMB, but also to multi-location enterprises and wholesale, plus some consumer as well.

Impact operates a VoIP and data business focusing on the wholesale market, and the addition of Matrix will give them some added customer scale and infrastructure depth there while adding an SMB and consumer dimension.

Financial details of the transaction and of what the combined company might look like were not disclosed. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter of 2013.

not a surprise – matrix has been laying off a bunch of folks in preparation of this action. too bad those folks couldn’t have stayed on and gotten a severance. just goes to show you the leadership is all about themselves.
