Badgeville goes to Equinix for AWS Direct Connect

August 20th, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

The behavioral platform and gamification specialist Badgeville is now accessing its public cloud infrastructure via Equinix (NASDAQ:EQIX, news, filings). Deploying initially in the carrier neutral giant’s DC6 IBX in Ashburn, Badgeville is taking advantage of the direct fiber connectivity to the public cloud, which in this case means they’re using AWS Direct Connect.

Gamification is what it looks like, making things into a game to increase user participation on websites — e.g. all those wonderful (and if you’re like me, annoying) Facebook apps being one example. Badgeville operates them as a Platform-as-a-Service from the cloud, and hence is optimizing its connectivity infrastructure.

The benefits claimed are millisecond latency to the public cloud, higher throughput, a 15% improvement in response times, and a 40% reduction in operational costs. Can’t argue with numbers like that, and so Badgeville plans similar deployments at Equinix facilities in London and Asia.

Equinix was one of the earliest partners for Amazon Web Services’s Direct Connect, signing on slightly over one a year ago.  Connectivity to and between various public, private, and hybrid cloud infrastructure assets is quickly becoming a big theme this year.
