BATS, Chi-X Europe Pick AboveNet

April 11th, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

While we’re all waiting to see if Zayo succeeds in its bid to buy the company, abvt is still out there selling bandwidth. This morning they picked up a key UK contract in the financial vertical supplying connectivity to BATS Europe and Chi-X Europe .

Of course, BATS Global Markets bought Chi-X Europe last fall and is in the process of integrating the two trading platforms, with the migration to the BATS platform scheduled for the end of April. Combined the two account for more than 20% of all European equities trading.

AboveNet will supply the trading platform with low latency connectivity at its Equinix LD4 and LD5 locations and to all key financial districts in London, which is of course where most of AboveNet’s European assets lie. They did recently expand their intercity network further east to Amsterdam, Frankfurt, and Paris; but those markets are at an earlier stage of development.
