Virgin Media Unveils Savvis-Powered Cloud

September 28th, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Virgin Media Business has entered the cloud sweepstakes with a little help. They will be using virtual private data center services from Savvis (news, filings) [a subsidiary of CenturyLink (NYSE:CTL, news, filings)] to offer cloud solutions in the UK, also leveraging their own fiber network of course.

Savvis has been a part of CenturyLink for a little over two months now. CenturyLink itself is primarily a domestic operation, but the addition of the Savvis assets and portfolio have given it a new international dimension that hasn’t been the focus of as much attention as CenturyLink’s US enterprise efforts.

The fact that Virgin Media Business does not have much competitive overlap with CenturyLink makes such a partnership an attractive way to get started with cloud services at a low price without working with the competition. There are probably other European operators that might follow a similar path.

I also noticed that my European network maps page didn’t have one for Virgin Media Business – a situation I have now corrected.
