lvlt had a pair of announcements in the past few days. Yesterday they revealed their role in delivering the Vancouver Winter Olympics [1] for France Télévisions both to the web and to the iPhone. Level 3’s CDN business continues to demonstrate strength in Europe where they have greater advantages – especially over the smaller providers. The service has been managed out of the Level 3 broadcast operations center in Dublin – I didn’t know they had one of those in Dublin, but I suppose it must have come along with the Servecast acquisition.
[2]And this morning, Level 3 announced the next leg in its local markets initiative – this time in South Texas [3]. That means Houston and Austin for now, rather than in the cities further south where they have a less substantial metro presence. Level 3 has a big presence in Houston with lots of on-net buildings, but in Austin while they have quite a bit of fiber they have far fewer buildings on-net. They will no doubt be looking to change that.
