It has been rather quiet over at inap for a few months, as the company spent some time reorganizing internally [1] after changing CEOs [2] and retooling [3] to increase their focus on colocation services. But in the last two days, there have been signs of life from the company’s IP services business. Yesterday, Internap expanded its network [4] into the North Bergen, New Jersey facility of sdxc, which opened just last year. Then today Internap added Hibernia Atlantic [5] to its already diverse list of providers. Hibernia’s facilities will give the company both greater capacity and improved resiliency between Europe and North America.
Internap’s IP services have been under some pressure for the last year or so. It’s good to see them confident enough to expand again. Hopefully the internal turmoil has truly passed and the company will be looking outward once more. For Hibernia’s part, their selection by Internap represents another step in the company’s evolution [6] from a mere submarine cable provider into a something more complex and interesting. Their ambition is clear and with the backing of Columbia Ventures one wonders what their next move might be.
